Word Counter FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything you need to know about counting words, characters and other writing statistics with ManavWrite.

Is ManavWrite Word Counter free? +
Yes. ManavWrite Word Counter is designed to be free to use. You can enter or paste your text and view the available writing statistics without needing an AI request for the counting itself.
Does ManavWrite Word Counter use AI? +
No. The basic word-counting calculation does not require AI. The counting is performed directly in your browser using JavaScript, so an AI model or API request is not needed for calculating your word count.
How does ManavWrite count words? +
ManavWrite primarily separates words according to whitespace. A token is counted when it contains at least one letter or number. Punctuation attached to a word does not normally create another word. For example, "Hello, world!" is counted as two words.
Does punctuation affect the word count? +
Punctuation attached to normal words does not normally create additional words. For example, commas, periods and quotation marks attached to words are treated as part of the surrounding text rather than as separate words.
Are hyphenated words counted as one word? +
Yes. With ManavWrite's current editor-style method, a hyphenated expression such as "well-known" remains one whitespace-separated word because the hyphen does not create a new whitespace-separated token.
Are numbers counted as words? +
Yes. Numbers are included when they form a valid token containing numeric characters. For example, "2026" is counted as one word-like token by the Word Counter.
Does ManavWrite count characters too? +
Yes. The Word Counter can display character-related statistics in addition to the word count, helping you understand the overall length of your writing.
What is the difference between characters and characters without spaces? +
Character count represents the characters in your text according to the counter's character-counting method. Characters without spaces exclude whitespace, which makes the two measurements useful for different writing and content-length requirements.
Can I count sentences and paragraphs? +
Yes. ManavWrite can provide additional writing statistics such as sentences and paragraphs, allowing you to understand more than just the total number of words in your text.
Can I see my reading and speaking time? +
Yes. The Word Counter can estimate reading and speaking time from your word count. These are estimates based on typical reading and speaking speeds, so your actual time may vary depending on your pace and the complexity of the content.
Can I use the Word Counter on my phone? +
Yes. The Word Counter is designed with a responsive interface so the editor, statistics, controls and other sections can adapt to smaller screens such as smartphones and tablets.
Can I use the Word Counter on a desktop computer? +
Yes. You can use the Word Counter in a modern desktop web browser. The larger screen layout gives you more room to work with your text and view multiple writing statistics at the same time.
Can I paste text directly into the Word Counter? +
Yes. You can paste text directly into the editor. The statistics update from the text currently available in the editor, making it useful for articles, essays, emails, assignments and other written content.
Can I upload a document to count its words? +
Yes. The current Word Counter supports importing supported TXT, Markdown, CSV, HTML, DOCX and PDF files. The available text is extracted and then analyzed by the Word Counter.
Is my text sent to ManavWrite when I count words? +
The basic counting calculation is performed directly in your browser and does not require sending your text to an AI service. This means the word-count calculation itself does not depend on a server-side AI request.
Why can different word counters show different totals? +
Different applications may use different rules for handling whitespace, hyphens, symbols, numbers, URLs, punctuation and other edge cases. Therefore, two counters can sometimes produce different results for the same text.
Is ManavWrite's count exactly the same as Microsoft Word? +
For ordinary plain text, ManavWrite is designed around a clear editor-style word-counting method. However, exact results can differ from Microsoft Word for certain document structures or edge cases. Complex elements in an imported document may also be handled differently by each application.
Can I use the Word Counter for essays and assignments? +
Yes. It can be useful for essays, assignments, reports, articles and other long-form writing. You can paste your content into the editor and quickly review its word count and other available writing statistics.
Can I use the Word Counter for blog posts and SEO content? +
Yes. Bloggers, content writers and website owners can use the counter to check the length of articles, landing-page copy, drafts and other content before publishing or editing. Word count alone, however, does not determine whether content is useful or search-friendly.
Can I clear my text and start again? +
Yes. Use the Clear option in the Word Counter to remove the current text and begin a new calculation. You can then paste, type or import another piece of content.
